Community ...

Hello Everyone,

Happy Monday

We hope that wherever you are and whatever you’re doing in this everchanging, chaotic and wonderful world, you’re keeping well.

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to look at some of the words and phrases that have become part of our everyday language, especially in alternative and well-being circles. Do we all really know what they mean and is the meaning the same for all of us?

BU-Evolution is all about community.  So, let’s start with community.  What does community actually mean?

It used to refer to people living in the same geographical area and following the same rules, laws, spiritual beliefs and customs and to a large extent this is still true.

However, this has started to change and we’re no longer held together by communities built on us living in close proximity to one another.

For example, we may have become disillusioned with our local (geographical) community, we no longer share the same beliefs; or we move (house) often and never have time to become part of a local community  One of the great advantages of the many new and immediate methods of communication it’s now possible for people from all over the world to be drawn together by common shared beliefs, aims and objectives and to form network (online) communities.  Geographical distance is no longer the barrier it used to be.    Of course, this has its drawbacks too – we can feel isolated amongst the people we share our space with and very close to those we meet online, some of whom we may never actually meet in the flesh.  However, think of the endless possibilities that an online community such as BU Evolution offers - that we can join together with people from all over the world that we otherwise would never have met …

Ask yourself ...

What does community mean to you?

What sort of community would you like to be part of?

What communities are you part of?
